Turning Geometries
Stellram offers the following geometries for turning.
Negative Geometries
Geometry 1A

Case Study Product Literature Product Video

1A - Fine Finishing:  Excellent chip control at low depth of cut and feed rates.  Geometry for reduced built-up edge during finish machining with good chip control and small chip section.

Geometry 2B
2B - Finishing:  Positive cutting action for very light depths of cut and feeds.  Positive rake provides lower cutting pressures allowing increased tool life.
Geometry 2N
2N - Light to Medium Roughing:  Positive rake angle provides a positive cutting action and reduced cutting pressure, this makes 2N a good starting geometry for a wide range of application / materials.
Geometry 3F

Case Study Product Literature Product Video

3F - Finishing to Light Roughing:  3F geometry has periphery ground edges to maintain accurate profiles and insert indexabillty. A sharp edge treatment reduces built-up edge and improves surface finishes.
Geometry 3G
3G - Medium Finishing to Light Roughing:  Versatile all purpose geometry, used with light depths of cuts and feed rates for trouble free machining.
Geometry 3J

Case Study Product Literature Product Video

3J - Medium Finishing to Light Roughing:   The smooth cutting action of 3J reduces cutting forces, improves surface finishes and increases tool life.

Geometry 3M
3M - Semi-finishing to Light Roughing:  All purchase geometry suitable for precision forged and cast components, offering excellent chip control at varying depths of cut.
Geometry 4M
4M - Medium to Heavy Roughing:  Single sided inserts for stability and strength with a soft cutting action, which allows for high feed rates.
Geometry 4T
4T - General Purpose Roughing:  New designed version of 4T with improved surface contact, a good all round negative roughing geometry for a wide range of application.
Geometry 4U
4U - Medium and Roughing:  This is a new geometry especially for Grey Cast Irons and Spheroidal Irons, it has excellent wear and deformation resistance.
Geometry 5V

5V - Heavy Roughing: Negative cutting action with extra edge support for superb roughing performance with very heavy feeds and depth’s of cut.

Positive Geometries
Geometry 15
Sharp edge ground geometry for finish machining at light depth of cut and feeds, this geometry also helps in reduce vibration.
Geometry 61
A sintered insert with press in chipbreaker provides good chip control and surface finish.
Geometry 62
A periphery ground edges, geometry with optimized chipbreaker for close tolerances and surface finishes.
Geometry 64
A highly positive geometry, periphery ground with polished top rake for the excellent removal of material.
Geometry 66
A periphery ground geometry with press in chipbreaker and sharp cutting edge, ideally suited to fine chip control.
Geometry 73
Sintered geometry, which covers a wide range of application and materials, ideal starter geometry for most application.
Geometry 91
For finishing to medium applications under stable conditions. Open, positive geometry produces excellent chips and low cutting forces in titanium-based alloys. Low feeds are possible.
Geometry 3G
Versatile all purpose geometry, used with light depths of cuts and feed rates for trouble free machining.
Geometry 4E
A new geometry specifically designed to meet the demands of machining aerospace type components manufactured from High Nickel, High Cobalt and Titanium-based alloys.
Geometry M
A sintered insert with press mini chipbreaker and ground chip groove in nose radius, has a soft cutting action and good chip control.
Geometry T
A utility geometry for a variety of cutting operations where the T style insert are required, gives a stable cutting action in demanding conditions.
Geometry W
Flat top inserts for general purpose machining available in sharp edge and honed edge condition, making this geometry suitable for materials from non- ferrous to cast iron.
Geometry X

Precision ground parallel chip groove, available with a fully ground periphery or as pressed, also with sharp or honed edge condition, which enables this geometry to cut a variety of materials in vibration sensitive operations.
